More than 55,000 applications to Tomsk universities

According to preliminary figures for the first wave of matriculations, more than 55,000 applications have been made to Tomsk universities, which is 4,500 more than last year.

“The dynamics of applications to Tomsk universities are positive. If we look at the number of applicants, this year it amounts to 23,700 people, which is 2,500 more than last year. This is a rise of 11%, despite the fact that practically all our universities have raised their entrance requirements,” says Alexei Pushkarenko, head of the Regional Department for Higher Professional Education.

He emphasized that the number of state-funded places in Tomsk’s six state universities and three state university branches this year is 8,672, which is 625 more than in the previous year.

“Seven hundred and sixty-nine more people from Tomsk Region have applied to Tomsk universities, with a rise of 1073 people from other regions. The number of applications from CIS countries has risen by 25% and is 3,137. I believe that this is the result of coordinated work by Tomsk universities, and collaboration with the regional authorities and the Tomsk consortium,” Dr. Pushkarenko added.
