QS: Tomsk Universities In Top 100 in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radio Electronics (TSUCSR), Tomsk Polytechnic University and Tomsk State University (TPU and TSU) entered the 100 best universities, according to the QS rankings for Central Asia and Eastern Europe, as reported on the official website of the ranking.

"University ranking QS: EECA is designed to assess the leading universities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Published in 2014 for the first time, it is a pilot version of the rating, based on methodology, which has been developed in order to reflect priorities and challenges of universities in these regions," – is said in a statement.

It is specified that while compiling the ranking, the following criteria have been taken into account: reputation of the university in scientific community and among employers, ratio of faculty members and students, proportion of employees with scientific degree, share of foreign teachers and students, publication activity of scholars and teachers of the university, and their citation, as well as efficiency of work through the Internet.

TSU occupies the 33rd place in the ranking, TPU occupies the 45th position, TSUCSR is included in the group of 91-100 places. Moscow State University is placed first, the second and third places were shared by Charles University (Czech Republic) and Novosibirsk State University. In total, 26 universities of Russia entered the top 100; it is more than from any other country, represented in the rating. Among the Russian universities, TSU is in 7th place, TPU is placed 11th, and TSUCSR is on the 26th place.

According to scientific reputation (traditionally, the most significant indicator), TSU is 5th in Russia and 27th in the overall ranking, TPU is placed 10th and 60th, TSUCSR is not indexed. In "problem" for Tomsk universities number of publications, TSU is 7th in Russia and 66th in the overall ranking, TPU occupies 13th and 91st places, TSUCSR is placed 19th and 101st. According to citation criteria, TSU is on the 11th place in the Russian Federation, TPU is 21st, TSUCSR is 25th; Tomsk universities haven’t entered the top 100 of the overall rating on this indicator.
