Tomsk Consortium sums up the work of three years

The participants of the Tomsk Consortium of Scientific and Research and Educational Organizations summed up the work of the last three years. The heads of all the Tomsk universities and scientific research institutes participated in the meeting.

“The consolidated budget of the participants of the consortium was 22.25 billion rubles in the last year. This is the budget of the Siberian department of the RAS along with Novosibirsk State University and this is a bit more than the budget of St. Petersburg State University, but less than the budget of MSU. For educational activity we have 9.966 billion rubles,” said the chairman of the consortium and rector of TPU Petr Chubik.

He also noted that 55% of the consolidated budget of the Tomsk Consortium belongs to the two national research universities, Tomsk Polytechnic University and Tomsk State University.

“The work of the Consortium is the distinctive feature of our region,” Mikhail Sonkin, Tomsk Region’s vice governor for science, education and innovation policy, noted at the meeting. “The Consortium is a catalyst of science and education, it allows us to receive necessary information, to exchange best experience very quickly and to make decisions on integration projects.”

The rector of TSUAB Victor Vlasov invited the members of consortium to consider the possibility of joint participation in global rankings in addition to work on promoting each of the Tomsk universities.

“Our potential is close to MSU’s. I suggest participating in the global rankings as the “Tomsk Consortium” just like Cambridge whose structure includes a great number of separate colleges, in order to make an impact at the global level,” explained Victor Vlasov.

The Tomsk Consortium of Scientific and Research and Educational Organizations was created on 4 April 2012 by 7 universities, 10 academic institutes and by the Tomsk Scientific Center of SB RAS. In 2013 the Consortium was officially established as for the organizational and legal support of scientific and technical activities by the law of Tomsk Region “On Scientific Activities and Science and Technology Policy of Tomsk Region” by resolution of the Governor of Tomsk Region.
