TPU and TSU enter top 100 universities of BRICS in THE rankings for the first time

Two of the leading Tomsk HEIs for the first time entered the top 100 universities of the BRICS countries ranking, compiled by Times Higher Education (THE): Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) took 20th place and Tomsk State University took 87th place according to the website.

The rankings are based on 13 indicators, including academic and scientific reputation, citations of scientific publications and others.

Universities of 35 countries (BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings) took places in the top 200 of the rankings, including 39 Chinese, 24 Taiwanese, 16 Indian, 15 Russian and 14 Brazilian universities.

Chinese universities led the rankings: first place was taken again by Peking University and the second by Tsinghua University. Third place was taken by Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), which had been in 5th place one year ago.

The second place among Russian HEIs was taken by St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (18th place overall), TPU came third (20th place overall) and the first among the non-capital Russian HEIs in the rankings. TSU took 9th place (87th overall)

It was previously reported that both Tomsk HEIs participating in the international competitiveness improvement program entered the top-800 of the best HEIs in the world of the main THE rankings, with TPU in the top-300 and in the top-3 among Russian universities. Moreover, TSU and TPU improved their indicators in the QS global rankings, where they entered the category 481-490.
